Dutch Farmers Party Win Big in Elections: Is this the end of the green agenda in the Netherlands?

Dutch farmers are celebrating today having had a surprise election victory in provincial senate elections, winning the highest number of seats with 15 out of 75 in polls yesterday.

The newly formed ‘Farmers Citizens Movement’ has overtaken the governing ‘People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy’ party led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte in what is a clear signal to government that Climate-associated agricultural policies are not meeting with public approval.

The coalition government of the Netherlands has lost 8 seats to the new Farmer’s Party.

Despite a clampdown on mainstream corporate media channels, there have been ongoing protests in the Netherlands, led by farmers, against new climate measures that will see amongst other things the reduction in the number of cattle and farms.
