On Wednesday Simon Coveney’s brother, Rory Coveney, RTE’s Director of Strategy was summoned before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Culture, Arts & Media meet to discuss the transparency of RTÉ’s expenditure of public funds & governance. On Thursday he appeared before the Dáil Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) to answer questions on the same issue.
It’s not a good look for the government to see a minister so closely aligned with the RTÉ board. On Friday Simon Coveney’s sailing partner was jailed. The former Deputy Chairman of An Bord Pleanála, Paul Hyde, who resigned from his position in April when he was outed by The Ditch was sentenced to two months in jail after pleading guilty to two breaches of planning laws at Bandon District Court.
Simon Coveney, a schoolmate of Hyde at PBC Cork and a personal friend were co-owners of the racing yacht ‘Dark Angel’.
